1. Describe how to configure Windows 8.1 for a home or small office internet connection. What hardware would you use (cable, NIC, etc.)? What steps would you take? Describe how you would configure Windows 8.1 for a home or small office wireless connection. Show a screen capture of one of these configurations.
2. Provide a description of the differences between a peer-to-peer network using Windows 8.1 and a client/server (domain) network. What networking features does Windows 8.1 provide as a peer-to-peer operating system? Take a Screen shot of the networking features. Describe the differences between a desktop operating system (Windows 8.1) and a network operating system (Windows Server 2008). List at least three differences
3. Take three screen captures of the Windows 8.1 Network and Sharing Center showing the configuration of local area network properties, Windows Diagnostics, and Advanced TCP/IP Settings. NTFS Permissions are one of the most valuable security features in Windows 8.1. However, unless you track how the settings are being applied, you will not know whether NTFS is working correctly. Test the folder permissions on the Win8Tips folder by creating a new user called Test8. Give Test8 READ ONLY permission to the folder. Take a screen capture. Set Auditing on the Win8Tips folder. Log in as Test8 and try to add a document to the folder. Log back in as administrator and review the log file. Take a screen capture of the log file.
4. Explain the various backup methods for system files and user files. Take two screen captures of the Windows Backup settings. Explain what you would backup and why. What would your backup schedule be?
5. Describe how Windows Firewall blocks or allows incoming or outgoing traffic. Take a screen capture of Allowed Programs. Take a screen capture of Inbound Rules. User Account Control (UAC) has made Windows 8.1 much more secure than Windows Vista. Turn on the (UAC). Take a screen capture of UAC. Write captions for all your screen shots.
6. Windows Action Center Take a screen capture of the Action Center. Describe how you would configure each of the settings for a home computer. Describe how you would configure each of the settings for a Windows 8.1 computer attached to a company network.
