Counselling for Grief and Loss

There are several steps to this assessment task.
1) Write a case study where a client has experienced a significant loss & decides to attend counselling to seek support around their issues of loss.
2) Ask someone you know to read the written case study & role play with you a 20 min scenario where you will act as the therapist & they will act as the client. Ask them to spend a few minutes preparing what they will say & how they would be feeling.
3) You will then write a 2000 word paper where you will first analyse their experience of loss according to any of the theories you have studied this term in this subject and then you will analyse & reflect upon your own conduct as a therapist in this context.
So in summary, you are required to interview a client & simulate a scenario where the client has experienced a significant loss. You will establish the interview according to ethical and professional practice, and show evidence of that in your written analysis.
It is recommended that you conduct an interview spanning approximately 20 minutes. You are to submit a summary / case study explaining & expressing the client’s situation. You do not need to submit a written transcript or a video of this interview. Your own written analysis of the client’s grief & situation according to the literature and your own analysis of your own conduct as a therapist forms the bulk of your assessment.
The client may play the role of any client you establish. You are permitted to use one of the case studies in your guide or develop your own case study and submit it to your lecturer at least 3 weeks before assessment is due.
In your written reflection you need to show evidence of your understanding of this client’s unique experience of vulnerability, grief & bereavement.
More important than demonstration of skill and technique is your demonstrated ability to reflect, analyse and critique and provide your rationale.
