The release of Spotify’s 2013 financial information (via an article at The Guardian) comes amidst heavy criticism about the company’s freemium business model and the amount of royalties it pays to rights holders — especially from its free tier. Although the numbers have little to say about the fairness of royalty rates, they provide good insight into Spotify’s business model and growth. Here are the main takeaways.

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS
 SOURCES: Your writing should be based on course material only. You are not expected to find additional sources of any kind. The only sources you should be using are assigned readings from the semester or the source article itself. Class powerpoints are not an appropriate source. You should reference the actual reading.

 IN-ESSAY CITATIONS: When you refer to information from a class reading, you must cite that reading with the author’s last name and the page on which that information appeared. For example, if you write “The CEO in the article seems to be referring to an Adaptive Approach to media management. (Kung, 52)” Each essay should have at least 2 citations.

OPINION VS. FACT: You are not writing a research paper—but nor are you writing an opinion piece. Your response may include your personal opinion, but your opinion must be supported by class readings and discussions. You may write using “ I “ sentences
