The Tempest, Gulliver’s Travels- Utopian Society (Creative writing)
A preoccupation of some of the writings we’ve looked at has been the prospect of Utopia
(The Tempest, Gulliver’s Travels). Describe what you feel would be a Utopian
civilization, giving thorough attention to laws, enforcement of laws, social conventions
and customs (marriage, dining, dress, work hours), distribution of wealth, health and
welfare of inhabitants, housing, energy production, education, role of the arts, resolution
and reconciliation of historical prejudices and biases that might survive from participants
in nonutopian cultures who join and found. Give a rationale for each point of your plan
as well as a proposal for where and how to implement it. Draw on historical and fictional
(literary, film) examples and statistics as is useful
