preparation process. Students are to research and prepare an Annotated Reference List. This list will use one ofthe essay questions setfor
assessment two as a basis. The essay question that you select for assessment one will be the same essay question that you will respond to in
assessment two when you write the full essay.
The aim of assessment one (i.e. Annotated Reference List) is to get ou to be in researching,
reading and preparing ideasthat will help you write a well-researched’, planner? and thought out final essay. To this end please followthe

Select only ONE question from the four options detailed
below in orderto research and write your Annotated Reference List:
01. Discuss biological or psychological positivism’s influence on
contemporary criminal justice policy and practice by using contemporary examples.
O2. Analyse the most significant contributions to
criminology from the Chicago School. Explain andjustify your choices by highlighting the current relevance of the contribution to
contemporary criminological thought.
03. With examples, discuss Downes and Rock (2011: 135) proposition that “Structure and culture make
(1:phatible demands and it is at these points of pressure that subcultures have evolv ed to ‘solve’the problemsthat arise.”

sourcesthat could be used to answer your chosen essay question. These two sources will include:
One peer-reviewed journal article

Onebookchapter(Scholarly)
Based on the above, one of your two sources MUST be a peer-reviewed journal article. STEP 3:
Having identified
your two sources, you are to summarise each source and use the source to construct an argument to address the essay question (application).
n constructing your argument you mayfocus on key sections/arguments and or evidence found within the source that can help answer your
essay question.
