In our community today, culture consists of many elements including race,gender,heritage, ideas, values beliefs and
norms. In order to understand an individual’s heritage one has to know the values and taboos of that country. Furthermore,
within every society there’s a culture with taboos and values that hold a society together. In countries like Jamaica and
Africa today, taboos such as homosexuality, female mutilation and cunnilingus symbolizes different aspects and morals. In
Addition to these studies, religion, education and family are considered values of Africa while dance-hall,education and
religion the values of Jamaica. This paper investigates the values and taboos of these cultures and what they symbolize.
