Discussion 4

Discussion 4
Chapters 17 and 18 review how nutrition status is assessed in hospital patients, as well as the possible treatments. Even though these chapters focus primarily on the role of the registered dietitian in delivering nutrition care, this information is pertinent if you intend to go into any healthcare profession (medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, RN, etc.) and also to be informed when family or friends might be faced with clinical nutrition issues (and I think it’s just interesting stuff!).

Instructions:

1. In 250 words or less describe one aspect of nutrition care, assessment, or intervention such as: nutrition screening, one specific element of the nutrition care process, one specific element of nutrition assessment, or one of the 4 major types of nutrition interventions. Posts must include enough information to be educational to other group members and demonstrate knowledge of the topic.

2. Your post should be unique from your group members’ posts. So for example, if a group member has already posted about biochemical data (a part of nutrition assessment), you should choose something else.

3. Comment on at least one other group members’ post. Feel free to add other interesting information, provide clarification, or suggest a correction to the information presented.

Module objectives related to this activity:

– Explain the role of nutrition screening in providing optimal nutrition care

– Outline the five steps in the nutrition care process.

– Outline the five major components of nutrition assessment.
