Diversity Term Project
As technology progresses and younger, tech-savvy workers join the workforce, accessing information about a prospective employer will increasingly be done through the internet and other sources. The prospective employee will use information provided there by the organization without having to access company reports or other outdated sources to learn about the operations of the company.
For this project, assume you are a job applicant of a diverse group (i.e. female, over 55, racial minority, personal with a physical challenge, gay or lesbian, etc.). Search the website of a major corporation for that organization’s commitment to/statement on diversity.
You will then prepare a short paper addressing the following topics:
You will briefly introduce and describe the company, including the major service/product it provides, where it operates, and how many employees it has.
Next, using the company’s website, identify any diversity-related materials presented. Discuss such topics as how easily it is to locate/access the material, whether it is a major feature of the site, and are diversity awards or third-party commentary on the organizations commitment to diversity highlighted on the site.
The next section shall discuss how useful the information is to a prospective employee (or prospective customer or supplier for the company). If the site you choose has no diversity information provided, explain what type of information would be useful to any (or all) of these people.
Then, explain your perceptions of the organization’s commitment to diversity. If the organization encourages diverse groups to work with, shop at, or work alongside it, explain how. If it seems to simply pay lip service to supporting diversity, explain why.
Finally, conclude the paper and explain whether you, having seen all the organization has to offer (or not) relative to diversity, would want a position with the company.
I will not set a limit on the length of this paper. It is, however, imperative that you address each section and use appropriate headings to separate the material presented, in accordance with current APA guidelines (see below for examples). I foresee that the paper will require 2-3 pages to adequately cover your organizations efforts in diversity. Clearly, one page for the body of the paper would not be adequate!
The project should also include a properly formatted cover sheet and References page listing all sources used in the project.
As with all written projects in the BAS program, the paper must be formatted using the current APA style.
NO OTHER METHOD OF FORMATTING IS ACCEPTABLE.
FORMATTING THAT IS DONE IN ANY OTHER STYLE WILL RESULT IN A SERIOUS REDUCTION IN THE STUDENT’S GRADE FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.
