– Embed sustainable practices in service operations 2 Project To complete the two (2) tasks in this project you need to research and collate ideas and experiences into a Resource Kit that can be implemented with children to strengthen their environmental competence. You are then required to analyse how your Resource Kit will be effective in supporting children to develop an understanding and respect for the natural environment. Task 1 Create a Resource Kit to increase children’s experiences and understanding of animals and the natural environment. Collect resources, photos, Weblinks, book titles etc. that would assist you in your work as an educator in an early childhood education and care service. Include resources that will provide children with a wide range of natural and recycled materials in their indoor and outdoor environments. Your Resource Kit is to contain at least ten resources. Task 2 Respond to the prompts below to analyse how your Resource Kit will be effective in supporting children to develop an understanding and respect for the natural environment. Explain how your Resource Kit will be useful in achieving the following in an early childhood education and care environment: a) Creating opportunities to discuss with children the natural environment and the interdependence between people, plants, animals and the land. b) Role-modelling respect, care and appreciation for the natural and constructed environments. c) Sharing information and providing children with access to resources about the environment and the impact of human activities on environments. d) Creating spaces that promote the development of life skills, such as growing and preparing food, waste reduction and recycling. e) Encouraging children to exchange thoughts and ideas about sustainable practice through intentional teaching, learning experiences and projects. f) Exploring ethical dilemmas of waste disposal for sustainability.
