Emergency management

Business and Community Recovery PlanResources

Business and Community Recovery Plan Scoring Guide.

Imagine that you are an emergency management officer present on-site at one of the disasters studied in this course. Write a detailed outline (8–10 pages) for a recovery plan for the community involved. Your plan outline should include the following elements:

•Representatives and leaders who (hypothetically) met to develop this plan.

•What commitments and cooperation did you expect from each of them?

•How did you assess the time required for recovery? (Explain your thinking.)

•What did you put in place to mitigate the impact of the disaster? (Describe your approach.)

•What did you put in place to initiate or accelerate recovery? (Describe your approach.)

Compare and contrast your plan to what actually occurred in the disaster situation, identifying:

•What was done historically

•What your plan recommends

•Why your plan would be more effective

This assignment asks you to draw on several sources: your reading and discussions in this course, your personal reflections in your journal in this course, and your personal experience in the field. In Unit 7, you will select your topic and particularly the disaster you plan to write about. In Unit 9, you will have an assignment to turn in a high-level (2-page) outline for this project. The final project will be due in Unit 10.

It would be a good idea to consider your topic as you go through the course so that by Unit 7, you will already have given this some thought. By the time you hand in your outline in Unit 9, you should be clear about the direction of your plan.
