Part II: Honing your skills in constructing a strong, persuasive, professional-level argument in your field or future profession in the Health or Natural Sciences
Purpose: In keeping with the goals and objectives of Writing 340, this discipline-specific assignment continues to train you to sharpen your skills in writing a mature, convincing, well-reasoned argument that allows your voice to come through.

Task: Now that you have brainstormed and thought deeply about the different perspectives surrounding an important dilemma in your field, and carefully researched what other scholars/voices have to contribute to the discussion, address the following question in a focused six-page essay:
On the whole, which side of your chosen dilemma has the stronger arguments to support it?

Some things to keep in mind:
o Page 1 of your paper should contain the following information:

Top Left: Your name:
Date submitted:
WRIT 340: Health/Natural Sciences (choose one)

Centered: Title of paper

Next:
Professional-level controversy or issue: (one sentence on your specific case in the form of a question)
Professional audience: (one, specific)

Abstract (100-150 words):

Begin your paper on page 2. The total number of pages, including page 1, should be 6-7.

o Make sure that your thesis sentence is specific to the case you have chosen (limited in scale, for example, to one deployment of sustainability or one specific product, and not all).
o Keep in mind that the audience for this assignment is professionals within your field and/or the field relevant to your topic.
o Make sure you keep your mind on what is being asked of you: stay focused. Do not, for instance, write a “solutions” paper…which would be answering a related – but different — prompt.
o Unlike Assignment 3, which summarized other people’s writing and thoughts with respect to your chosen issue, Assignment 4 should emphasize YOUR voice and views, arguing for a position while keeping what you have learned from your sources in mind. While you are welcome to use outside sources, do so judiciously and do not let other people’s voices drown yours out.
o Note that you will be attaching a selected bibliography this paper and to Assignment 4. You may use either the MLA or APA formats, as long as you stick to one for a particular assignment.
o Number of required sources: six to twelve, of which at least four should be scholarly sources.
o Feel free to add on or omit some sources, should you wish to add to or subtract from the ones you used for A3. This is entirely optional, as long as your topic remains the same.
o As always, the assignment will be discussed extensively in class.
