Choose one of the following three types of written communication—texting, email, Tweets—and compare/contrast it with academic writing.
While you will ultimately choose one of these options for your actual paper, for this week’s assignment, you need to write one well-developed paragraph (something like
5-7 sentences) that explains which of these three options you are the most interested in comparing/contrasting to academic writing and why. Make sure to express your
feelings and expectations clearly. As a class, we have been focusing on improving two specific aspects of these short responses: first, proofreading closer, and
second, adding more details and explanations that allow you to develop longer, more helpful responses.
This activity should serve a number of purposes, including the fact that it should help you start locating sources and ideas for your paper, and it should help me
prepare for the drafts that we will start looking at in the next few weeks.
As always, make sure that you format your paper in MLA (google “OWL MLA” if you need to see how to do this). It is my belief that we need to practice MLA form as often
as possible (even when we are not using any sources to document, such as in this assignment). Also, please submit your document as a Word .doc or .docx, or Rich Text
.rtf in the dropbox.
