Paper instructions:
choose one of them
1.Numerous characters in Shakespeare’s The Tempest find themselves either
enslaved to others or to themselves. Select at least two characters and examine the
ways in which The Tempest approaches these master/slave relationships. You may
want to limit your examination to a key issue, such as freedom or power. Ultimately, you are exploring what the play reveals about master/slave relationships.

2.Examine the complexities of one character (e.g., Prospero, Caliban or Ariel) from
the play. Your primary aim is to argue how readers can best understand this
particular character. Some questions you may consider are the following: how has
the character’s past shaped his/her life, what motivates the character to particular
actions or inactions, how does the character relate to others and what do these
relationships reveal about the character
