This assignment is worth 25% of your course mark. Learning outcomes: ? Discuss the structure and role of NZ and international environmental agencies (The underlying reasoning, ethical, economic, and social benefits of implementing environmental improvement techniques and management systems, including ISO14001.) Assess benefits and limitations of current environmental management systems and techniques (The environmental management tools, systems and techniques available for the enhancement of sustainability including carbon trading, life cycle analysis, environmental impact assessment, carbon foot-printing and environmental auditing). Propose appropriate technologies for sustainable energy use and waste management. (Technologies available for the mitigation, minimisation, and remediation of degraded environmental media (historical, current and future – including renewable energy generation, energy efficiency initiatives, waste management and water/wastewater treatment and use).

Propose environmental management practices in line with Maori cultural issues with appropriate references to the RMA.
(The resource management act and its implications in relation to local government, communities and at a national and international level. Processes for iwi and hapu participation).

Requirements: Following the class discussion on the Te Uku wind-farm project prepare a report including, but not necessarily limited to the following areas: ? Introduction: An executive summary of the sustainable energy project at the Te Uku wind-farm site, near Raglan. Also, provide an overview of the project in the context of regional, local and international energy requirements and related economic and sustainability issues. Project; Planning & Management & related Environmental Management tools: Detail the chronological process requirements of the project in relation to the RMA and the long term operation of the wind farm site, summarising the project co-owners (Meridian Energy and WEL Networks) use of environmental management tools and techniques used throughout the project. Impact Assessment & Conclusions: Detail the associated benefits and impacts of any related features you believe are pertinent to the project life cycle. o o Your report should be approximately 2-3,000 words. References are to be in APA format and listed at the end of the report.
