I. Resource allocation
a. Describe ethical issues involved in the allocation of resources.
i. Resource allocation refers to the distribution of (sometimes scarce) resources to many differing and/or competing groups or individuals. Ethical issues related to resource allocation can be described as facing difficult decisions to ensure that resources are dispersed to those in need, in a fair and equitable way.

b. Discuss health resource allocation.
i. Should be cost effective; discuss and provide examples
ii. Should be just and represent equality ; discuss and provide examples

c. Describe how resource allocation could affect a manager
i. Decisions may affect the outcome of employee performance or assignment outcomes
ii. Importance of maintaining fairness

d. Discuss Utilitarianism
i. Utilitarianism refers to the ethical principle that decision making should reflect the greatest amount of good to the most people possible. It aims at producing the maximum amount of happiness while reducing as much suffering as possible.

e. Discuss the pros and cons of rationing
i. Rationing refers to is the controlled distribution of scarce resources, goods, or services. Rationing controls the size of the ration, one’s allotted portion of the resources being distributed on a particular day or at a particular time.

II. Social Responsibility
a. Social responsibility – describe an organizations social responsibility to the community.
i. Social responsibility refers to the obligation to make decisions that benefit society as a whole.
ii. Corporate social responsibility has become more prominent in most recent years, and refers to the obligation of business to appeal to the “triple-bottom line: profits, people and the planet.” Business should make strategic planning for social responsibility a priority.
