The Project to be addressed by the Paper: You have just graduated from Shorter College’s MBA program and have secured a position as an operations director for a well known publicly traded organization. You have been assigned the challenge of evaluating an organization from a performance measurement perspective. Your analysis, based on the concepts covered in this course, should address each of the following
1. Measuring the Performance of People People are the most important element in the performance of an organization. Measurements provide substantive feedback, a key element in motivating employees. Individually, performance is customarily measured and managed through an appraisal process. It is essential that targets are aligned with the objectives of the organization.
2. Measuring Customers: In any business, sales are the ultimate measurement of the performance of an organization in relation to customers, however a number of intermediate measures provide valuable intelligence. These measures include customer satisfaction, perception, and loyalty.
3. Measuring Process Performance: Processes are the fundamental elements of a business that match customer expectations, therefore measurement of the processes is an initial step in an improvement program. A framework for process measurement includes outcomes, resources, coordination, and control mechanisms. The two measures that are particularly important in managing the performance of processes are cycle time and first time success rates.
4. Measuring Financial Performance: Financial results are important in the influence of investors, banks, customers, and suppliers. Shareholders and investors are the key stakeholders with respect to financial performance. Key measures include profitability ratios, liquidity ratios, and management ratios.
5. Measuring Culture and Leadership Performance: A number of factors contribute to high levels of high performance including the environment, recruitment of talent, and communication.
