Write an 800 to 1,000 word essay (3 to 4 pages) in which you evaluate a topic. Your paper should conform to the MLA format. Use at least 2 sources. For this paper only, your instructor will not take points off for errors in citation as long as it is obvious that you made an attempt to follow the MLA format.
For this assignment, you can choose to evaluate a movie or book (good or bad) or a policy (effective or ineffective). For instance, you may act as a book reviewer and evaluate a book. You may want to suggest a book that you think all college students should read. Maybe you love a certain movie and you think everyone should see it. To help you get started on this paper, look at recent movie reviews to see how they are written. The Hunger Games movie would be a good place to start.
As for your sources, they should be credible sources (other critics, for instance, and not your friends) who share your view.
In an evaluation essay, once you decide what to evaluate you must establish criteria for your evaluation. For instance, what list of traits makes for a good teacher or friend. Then based on those traits how would you evaluate that teacher or friend. Don’t forget to offer specifics throughout your paper.
Have the thesis statement in the first paragraph.
