EXPERIENCE OF CHRONICITY PAPER
PURPOSE
To enhance your nursing practice by developing a greater understanding of the experience of chronicity.
GUIDELINES
1. Select a patient population (age group/developmental stage and a specific chronic disease) that experiences this concept.
2. Use two journal articles from current peer reviewed professional journals, from 2004 to date, and/or earlier foundational articles. One journal article will be provided in the informatics class. The second article must be submitted with the paper.
3. Summarize separately key ideas from each article. Summary should be brief but thorough.
4. Analyze the key ideas from the two articles discussing possible relationships between key ideas. Describe relevance of the concept to your patient population.
5. Discuss the application of the key ideas to nursing practice across the hospital setting.
6. Additional sources of literature and course content should be utilized for discussing the relevance of the concept to the patient populations and for application to nursing practice when applicable.
7. The chronicity paper checklist must be completed and handed in with the assignment.
FORMAT

• 6 double-spaced pages (excluding title page, table of contents and references)

EVALATION CRITERIA
3. Introduction (1 mark)
• Describe the purpose of the paper.
• Identify the concept and patient population.
4. Summary of Articles (4 marks)
• Summarize key ideas from the literature (2 articles, must be from paper reviewed professional journals).
5. Analysis of Articles (10 marks)
• Discuss possible relationships between key ideas from the two articles by comparing and contrasting the author’s ideas and feelings. (6 marks)
• Using additional nursing literature, clearly describe the relevance of the concept to your patient population. (4 marks)
6. Application to Nursing Practice (14 marks)
• Apply 4 key ideas from the 2 analyzed journal articles.
• For each key idea discuss specific implications for nursing practice in the hospital context. Suggestions for clinical practice from the two journal articles must be included. Each key idea should have three relevant nursing interventions from the journal articles when possible.
• Additional literature that includes chronicity context, course content and nursing literature should be used to further support the nursing interventions.
7. Summary (1 mark)
• Summarize the key points of the paper.
8. Format and APA
• Create a logical flow between topics.
• Utilize correct spelling and grammar.
• Cite sources correctly and consistently
• Do not exceed stated length.
• Adhere to APA guidelines.
• Annotated bibliography not acceptable.
