1. Read the lesson on page 138: Teaching Idea 4.1 Break It Up! Exploring Line Breaks in Free Verse Poetry. What are the strengths and weaknesses of this lesson? How would you change it to meet the needs of your students (or a grade level you would like to teach if you are not currently teaching)?PLEASE MAKE FIT FOR 2ND GRADERS

3.What is the definition of Haiku (see page 149)? Make a Haiku up as if you were going to demonstrate one to kids so they would know what it is.

4. What is the Teaching Idea 4.3 (page 155), Fifteen Minutes, Fifty Poems! all about? Describe this approach in your own words and then tell what you think of it. Would it work with your students? Why or why not?

5. Find one poet and one of his/her poems and type it out. How would you use this particular poem with students and what do you want them to know and be able to do after you have used it?

Your students (or future students) are counting on you to read these chapters so you will be BETTER at exposing them, teaching them, and using them within your classroom instruction, no matter what grade you teach!
