Mr. Roy Whittaker is the Safety Officer for the Blackheath Community Hospital. The facility will soon install its first ethylene oxide sterilization machine for use on medical supplies and equipment that are sensitive to heat sterilization. Part of Roy’s responsibilities is to train employees regarding the characteristics of new products they will be using. This training will include health risks, toxicological effects and sampling procedures. <br /> <br /> Answer guidelines–answers should encompass knowledge from the text, videos, PowerPoints and outside research.<br /> <br /> 1) Define the characteristics of ethylene oxide to include items noted on pages 154-157 of the text.<br /> <br /> 2) Define the characteristics of ethylene oxide covering toxicological effects and physiologic effects.<br /> <br /> 3) Discuss the OSHA exposure standards, personal protective equipment and correct sampling methodology for ethylene oxide.<br /> <br /> 4) In this response you are to use the information for ethylene oxide as it would be found on an MSDS as noted in Figure 7-1 of the text. You are to prepare a brief training program for employees regarding ethylene oxide. This is not to be an outline of material nor is it to be submitted in powerpoint form. This is a written narrative as you are speaking to them to your employees about ETO in a 5 minute training session. What would you say to them?<br /> <br /> PAPER REQUIREMENTS:<br /> <br /> This assignment must be presented as a “Word” document in Times New Roman (12) font.<br /> No cover page is needed, but an inserted header with the class number and student’s name is required.<br /> The paper margins will be 1” on all sides. Double spacing only is to be used throughout the paper.<br /> Each heading as noted above is to be used with the student’s response directly after it. The response is to be in a narrative form in the student’s own words. Do not use lists with bullets, numbers or anything similar.<br /> The primary source of information is for this exercise is to be the course textbook. Secondary sources of information may be used as needed. References for source material are to be provided at the end of the paper, information from books will indicate book title, page #, column # and paragraph #. Web sources will indicate a viable link.<br /> Numbered and bullet lists are not to be used as a response to the question. The paper must be a minimum of 1000 words.<br /> Assignments will be reviewed for spelling and grammar with deductions being taken up to 30 percent.
