Formal scene analysis
Do a formal scene analysis. What this involves is breaking the scene down into shots, and identifying what’s going on in each shot—what’s the camera distance? Angle? What’s the lighting like? What kind of editing is going on? Where are the cuts? Are they hard or soft? Etc. How does this scene function in the film as a whole? How does it contribute to the overall meaning. sense, or structure of the film?
