Over its history, the United States has used a variety of energy sources. The use of these sources has changed over time, typically over a span of decades.
The United States currently gets roughly 80% of its energy from fossil fuels like oil, coal, and natural gas. However, in the decades ahead there will be huge pressures to change as these become harder to find, environmental effects like global warming worsen, or prices of these increasingly scarce resources becomes too high to bear.
The most desirable attributes for the future of the U.S. energy supply are:
1. The future energy supply is affordable.
2. The source of this energy is stable over long periods of time.
3. The energy is clean, both in extraction/development and in its use.
4. The energy is domestic and not reliant on other countries to provide.
Considering the qualities of a sustainable energy mix above, present your vision of what the U.S. energy mix should be in 2050. Specifically:
