Geography film’s geographical and historical context

Written reviews should be about two pages and include the following:
1. An introduction that summarizes the film’s message and it’s significance for the region. What should viewers know about the film’s geographical and historical context beforehand in order to understand and fully benefit from watching the film?
2. When and why was the film made? Is there anything controversial about its content or production? What were the film-makers’ objectives? What dramatic methods were used to convey its central message (s) to viewers? How effective were they?
3. Choose two scenes (different from those selected for presentation to the class) and explain their historical, political, and geographical context in some detail. (Note: This may require a little research) What aspects are based on fact and what were fictionalized? How does each connect to key issues or themes covered in class?
4. Write a conclusion that summarizes what you think viewers can learn from the film, how effective it is at giving us greater insight into this region, and any cautions you would suggest to encourage critical thinking about the film’s content, style, or imagery.
