Global Economic Environment and Marketing
Project Assessment
A. Project background
Since 2013 the European Union (EU) and the USA negotiate Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership (TTIP): first round took place in July that year and the latest
one, the ninth, in April 2015. The Chief negotiators are Garcia Bercero, director at the
Directorate General for Trade of the European Commission (DG TRADE) from the
EU side and L. Daniel Mullaney, Assistant United States Trade Representative for
Europe and the Middle East from the US side. It is not expected that this agreement
would be finalised before 2016 if not later.
B. Project question
Analyse potential impact of TTlP on a company originating from Singapore and
trading on the US and EU markets. What kind of benefits and threats could it face?
Develop a strategy it could use to exploit potential opportunities and avert threats?
C. Project specifications
1. Identify and describe theory which made the US and the EU to attempt to conclude
the agreement. Support your analysis with statistical data on trade in different
areas like goods, services etc.
2. Identify theoretical opportunities and threats that company outside of the EU and
USA could face if TTlP is concluded. Support your analysis with examples
(including statistical data) from the past when similar agreements were concluded.
3. Describe in details the TTlP agreement negotiation process and potential final
outcome.
4. Design a strategy which could exploit potential opportunities and avert threats. This
strategy should be rooted in analysis done in points 1, 2 and 3.
