Every student is required to submit 2 abstracts (5% each) of articles about the modern Middle East appearing in 2 different scholarly journals i.e. Middle East Journal, Saudi Aramco World, etc. (See below for journal list). The purpose of this assignment is to introduce you to sources that provide new perspectives, deeper analyzes, and broader syntheses than you will find in the daily news, or on-line.. Your papers will be graded on a credit/no-credit basis. Proof-read for spelling accuracy & proper grammar; points will be deducted for errors. Don’t plagiarize.
ABSTRACT? An abstract is a short SUMMARY of the CONTENTS & CONCLUSIONS of a FULL ARTICLE (NO BOOK REVIEWS). Who is the author? What is the thesis and subject of the article? Abstracts should be TWO typewritten pages in length—no less than 2 full pages. Your commentary is not required, but is welcome at the very end. Typed, double-space, with 1” margins, 12 point font. MUST BE SUBMITTED AS “HARD COPY” — ON PAPER, +STAPLED. Keep a copy in your computer “just in case.”
NO LESS than 2 FULL pages (minimum 44 lines of text over 2 pages).
REQUIRED FORMAT: Each on a separate page. Put your name & course title at the top right. (one line—like at top of this page). AT THE TOP OF page one start with a complete bibliographic citation LIKE THIS FORMAT — author first, then article title, name of the journal, volume number, date, page numbers, AND THE URL if you accessed it electronically.
