History and Political Science
To what extent was China a Buddhist country from the third to the sixth centuries (200-600)?

Project description
Guideline:

How would you define a “Buddhist country”? What criteria (political, social, economic, cultural, etc.) would you use? What evidence would you point to? What was the status of Confucianism and Daoism in this period? Were these philosophical/religious traditions entirely eclipsed by Buddhism? You should pay attention to regional differences as well as continuities and changes over time.

Please cite relevant readings (including both primary and secondary sources) from Weeks 8 through 10 to support your arguments. Proper documentation is required, and use of unassigned sources is strongly discouraged. You may consult one another, but you are not permitted to write from a common outline. An essay that relies primarily on Hansen or the introduction to the primary sources will not receive a high mark.
