History of Modern Europe
The period between 1815 and 1914 was a formative era in the development of “modern” attitudes towards most aspects of our culture, politics and society. Over the past century, most peoples of the world have adopted, in part or in full, “western” attitudes on a number of these issues. Yet not all of this was for the good. Discuss one of the following topics:
Gender, race, class, nationalism, economics, politics, or art (or select your own, with my approval)
Do you believe that the attitudes and ideas Europeans developed during the 19th century towards this particular issue had a positive or negative effect on the past 100 years of world history?
You are encouraged to inject your opinions and commentary within this essay but done so as not to repeatedly use the “first person”. Make certain that you do not focus on events in Europe, but ideas. The highest graded papers will be ones that critically engage with the ideas emanating from (or articulated by) 19th century commentators in a manner that highlights and reinforces your assertions about the importance or influence of one particular “issue”.

o Main task of this research paper (to both present and analyze the views and findings of research papers on your research questions);
o Goal of this research paper (such as to help enhance the understanding of the issues involved in your research topic).
