TOPIC WRITING ESSAY ABOUT: Two of the major figures in the 19th century struggle for black equality in the U.S. have been Nat Turner and Sojourner Truth. As we have discussed in class, each of these figures applied different methods in making their appeals for freedom. How would you characterize their methods given the social and historical context which they existed in? Comment upon the application of their tactics given the conditions of black Americans in the 19th century? Finally, are there any modern figures who you might find to relay a similar message about inequality? If so, whom, and explain the connections.
