Once you’ve selected a photographer whose work interests you, use the book and/or the internet to find the information required below. NO WIKIPEDIA INFORMATION ALLOWED. There are plenty of reliable photo websites; use those.
1. Bio Data: birth date/date of death if applicable; major social/cultural/economic/historical events during the photographer’s life. How did the photographer’s times affect his/her work? Personal influences: family; friends – when/how did the photographer get his/her first camera? What were the social/political/economic realities of the time?

2. Technical data: what type of equipment did the photographer use and how did this affect the work? Are there any special processes, chemistry, or technology used? How did the type of camera the photographer used affect his/her working method?

3. Art data: did the photographer belong to any group of photographers or any artistic movement that affected his/her work? Was the photographer moving with or against the artistic current? Who were the photographer’s fellow artists/photographers? Did they influence the photographer’s work? What were the photographer’s influences?

4. The work: what type of work did the photographer do (documentary, directorial, landscape, portrait)? How large is the photographer’s body of work? What did the photographer make images of/about – subject and content? What was the photographer’s intent?

5. Analyze three of your favorite images by this photographer: why do you ‘like’ them? Is it the subject that appeals to you or the style or the mood or the content or the composition or some combination of these elements? What ‘works’ in these images? Why do they compel you to look at them?
