Background:
Yummy Good Treats is a distributor of ice cream and frozen novelties. They want to ensure the security of their information
assets by providing appropriate levels of control for all components of Yummy Good Treats information systems (IS)
environment. As Yummy Good Treats continues to grow and find new ways to serve its customers, state-of-the-art technology is
deployed as an enabler to meet the company’s business goals. However, with the enhanced capabilities of this new technology
come increased vulnerabilities. By their nature, technologies such as wide area networks (WANs), local area networks (LANs),
wireless LANs, removable media (USB sticks, CDs, DVDs, etc.), portable devices (including laptop computers, PDAs, and
SmartPhones), and Internet connections (both within Yummy Good Treats’ network and in places that offer wireless Internet
connections) increase the risk of unauthorized access, wrongful disclosure, alteration and disruption in availability of
company and customer data.
Yummy Good Treats has hired you to establish a new Information Security area of practice within the company. You are to
conduct a review of their environment and design an information security program for them. The Security Program will focus on
the efforts that are needed to protect the fundamental security characteristics of critical information by managing the risks
associated with the environment.
Assignment:
Choose one of the Themes and one of the Critical Success Factors (CSF) for the security program that were discussed during
the first night of class. Write 2-to-3 paragraphs on the theme and 2-to-3 paragraphs on the CSF. Describe the theme and the
CSF and explain why they are important to a security program.
Theme chosen: Establish, communicate, educate, and integrate security organization and general security responsibilities
CSF chosen: Refine business processes so that security becomes a transparent part of “everyday life”.
