Inquisition was a court as well as process that Roman Catholic Church established with the intention of ensuring that those people or Christians that went against the faith of the church were identified and punished. This paper discusses on the factors that necessitated the inquisition in the minds of Catholic Church and its ramification.
Inquisition was necessitated by the leaders of the church such as the pope who mislead the church through their own interpretation of the word of God. The leaders had immense power to make decisions of the church and they contributed a lot to the development of inquisition in the minds of the catholic (Christian Enterprise, 2013). The members were required to ask or repentance of their sins publicly and this attracted harsh punishment. He stated that any individual that could not control his or her personal view of God and if this conflicted with the Church teachings such individuals were to be burned without mercy.
This inquisition had numerous ramifications on the church and as well as the Christian fraternity. Those people that went against the teaching or those that were perceived to have sinned went through a very horrifying ordeal. They were oppressed and their estates were taken from them and transferred to church (Christian Enterprise, 2013). People that seemed to contravene the doctrine of the church were destroyed through severe suffering.
The cruelty and torture contributed to formation of protestant churches that aimed to end this cruelty. The image of the church was watered down. Defensive a reactions was experienced through movements that aimed to restore order (Christian Enterprise, 2013). The protestants declared war on Catholics because of the inhumanity that the church portrayed or leveled on its followers.
Therefore, in conclusion, the Catholic Church has hard a darkest moment of religious disorders of the highest level. The church leadership played critical role in championing of these uncouth practices that caused a lot of havoc to the believers. The consequences of their actions caused negative attitude among many and led to uprisings from Protestants who demanded that these torture comes o an end.
