International Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance

Against the backdrop of the worldwide financial crisis towards the end of the last decade, and
the numerous financial scandals that have subsequently emerged, governments and regulators
around the world are reviewing their regulatory regimes to ensure that future risks can be
identified more effectively and to demonstrate that lessons from the past have been learned.
You are a senior member of staff at the lead regulator in a jurisdiction and sector of your choice.
You will be speaking at an industry conference in London next month, contributing to a
discussion on regulatory initiatives, and are currently preparing your speech, drawing on the
topics outlined above. You have already made some notes on the types of issues linked to this
that you wish to cover in your speech. Specifically, you wish to provide:
 a brief overview of the major international regulatory developments that have impacted
your chosen jurisdiction and sector during the past five years
 an indication of the current main regulatory trends which are emerging internationally
and that have impacted on regulatory activities in your chosen jurisdiction and sector,
explaining why and how these have made a significant impression on regulation in the
jurisdiction
 a summary of trends in the existing regulatory regime in your chosen jurisdiction and
sector and the resulting impact of these on regulated firms
 identification and description of the top three regulatory risks that currently face your
chosen jurisdiction and sector, outlining the actions that are being taken to address each
of them, explaining why these are important and making clear how these will benefit the
regulatory environment within the jurisdiction overall.
Produce this speech, taking into account all that has been said above and demonstrating
consideration of the purpose of the speech, the context in which it will be delivered and the
