Iran is the most serious security threat to the United Arab Emirates
Policy Brief: To write a paper as if I am a consultant or an advisor and therefore I should provide a document that outlines the importance of choosing a particular policy alternative or course of action in a current policy debate.
The policy brief should be 5 pages long (excluding bibliography), double-spaced, 12-inch font.
Highlight why Iran is the most serious security threat to the UAE. Discussion may include (but not necessarily), the following:
– Threaten the sovereignty of the UAE? Example of the 3 islands that belong to the UAE.
– Does Iran threaten to close the Strait of Hormuz?
– Iran’s nuclear power
– Iran’s aggressive stance towards the US which is one of UAE’s allies and how this may affect the UAE
– Any other threats are most welcome
Outline of the policy brief and what it should address the following:
– Issue: Give a concise, one sentence statement of the issue and the UAE.
– Background: Discuss the importance of the issue to the UAE and convince them that they are required to take action.
– Analysis: Summarize existing policy options and actions that have already been taken. Discuss pros and cons of various policy options.Provide (as an advisor) three potential courses of action.
– Recommendation: Provide a convincing proposal of how certain policy approaches need to be changed or modified. Address practical steps or measures that need to implemented. Mention why the suggested recommendations are best suited to deal with the problem at hand.
