Journalism, mass media and communication Television

This assignment should indicate your ability to develop a cogent, well structured argument in a concise and clear manner. It is important to have a well defined thesis statement from which the argument will unfold. It is also a measure of how well you understand the materials from the course up to this point.

Topic:

The television that we watch today is not necessarily what television is, but rather the particular form it has taken at this point. How, then, does it come to be the way it is? Using the readings given, describe how the authors make claims for the ways that television has become what it is as a consequence of different factors. According to the sources, what are these, and how do they determine the concrete shape that television takes? In developing your argument, your claims are to be framed in relation to evidence from the readings; discussion must be rooted in warrants and claims drawn from authoritative sources. In other words, a scholarly approach does not voice mere opinion, but persuades by making reference to, and citing scholarly sources to support the claims that are made.
