Chapter 8:
1) Siegel and Welsh (2011) reported that Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) currently may be the United States’ “most dangerous gang” (p. 212). According to FBI Assistant Director, Chris Swecker: “MS-13 has two characteristics that give us great concern and have drawn our attention. One is that they are extremely violent, and they’re proliferating across the country. Two is they’re an international criminal organization. They’re not confined in the United States. You can find them in five countries, and now even in Europe” (as cited in Muraskin and Roberts, 2009).
In addition to watching this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCE2i-vFwyc), do a little research on MS-13. Siegel and Welsh (2011) pose the question, “Why do youths join gangs (p. 215)? They also present five different views on why youths join gangs. Using MS-13 as an example, choose one view and answer why youths would join a gang like MS-13?
