King Lear analysis

King Lear analysis

For each scene you read in King Lear, with the exception of the really short ones, you will choose one passage to examine. This passage, or quote, should be significant to that particular scene as well as to the larger play. In a Word document, indicate, by quoting, the passage and identify who is speaking and to whom. Then analyze the passage by exploring its significance to and impact on the overall story. Write 100-200 words.
Remember that successful literary analysis requires more than simply identifying characters and summarizing the plot action that occurs. Who is involved and what happens are always important elements to be aware of, but what matters most in an analysis is gaining insights into how each passage is constructed and why it matters.
Questions to consider:
How does the passage advance the overall plot of the story?
How does the passage develop the theme of the story?
Does Shakespeare employ literary devices such as juxtaposition in the passage? If so, how does his use of these devices contribute to the structure and/or significance of the passage?
Does the passage develop a motif that reinforces its connection to the larger story?
How does Shakespeare use poetic meter, rhyme scheme, and word choice in this passage?
