Lab Management

Part 1 :
As part of your lab management duties, you are required to provide one continuing education unit per month to you staff. This month, you have chosen to teach them about PDCA. The only problem is that they have very little time to read through information or engage in an online module. So, you have chosen to give them the information in a graphical format, on one page!
To complete this assignment:
1. Create something (graphical) on ONE page that explains the basics about PDCA, each step in the process. You can draw this by hand, on the computer, or create a graphical representation in PowerPoint.
2. DO NOT copy a graphic that you find online. It is perfectly acceptable for you to create the image by hand, snap a picture, and upload.
3. The only requirement is that I be able to understand the basics of the PDCA cycle from view and interacting with your ONE page teaching tool.
Literally imagine that you are managing a lab and have to explain this to the staff. How can you you clearly explain this CQI process in the simplest and most efficient manner possible? Does not matter how you create it…..this is up to you!
Part 2:
make a 6-week schedule for the lab.
Instructions:
1. The schedule must be 6, 7 day weeks
2. The lab must be staffed 24 hours per day.
3. Your FTE budget is 20.0 FTEs.
4. You are responsible for the following departments:
1. Core Lab (Chem, Heme, UA, Coag, Serology)
2. Microbiology (4 culture reading benches, 1 set up bench, 1 floater)
3. Blood Bank (facility is a small rural hospital, not a trauma or heart cetner)
5. You are NOT responsible for phlebotomy coverage.
6. There is ONE supervisor on days and ONE on second. There is NO supervisor on third. The supervisors are NOT part of the 20.0

FTEs.
Be sure that the schedule provides coverage for the full 24 hours, 7 days per week.
The schedule must be 6 weeks in length.
Use employee names (any names) to designate the person responsible for shift coverage.
There are many, many ways this can be done. Think of the most efficient schedule that you can come up with, covering the lab while providing adequate support to the employees. Get creative on this! If you come to a point where you need more FTEs (you should not), email me, and I will approve or deny your request.
Part3:
At your current place of employment, locate the institution’s mission statement, vision statement, and core values or principles. Does your institution, section, and department represent these statements? If you could rewrite them, what would you change?
On your own, complete the following:
1. Develop a one sentence mission statement for your lab.
2. In one sentence, state the lab’s vision for the future.
3. Develop 5 core value statements that explain how your department operates within the institution.
Part 4: Myers Briggs Personality Type
What is your Myers Briggs type, and why is it important that you know your type?
After you complete the Myers Briggs Personality Assessment through the link below, please write a 2 to 3 paragraphs about why it is important to understand your own personality in order to better serve the employees in your care. You may include your own personality type and state if you feel that this is an accurate assessment of your behavior and approach when working with others.
