LEADING CHANGE AND MAKING CHANGES

ASSIGNMENT IS TO REVIEW VIDEO AND PROVIDE A RESPONSE BASED ON THE ASSIGNMENT INTSTRUCTION BELOW:
Stuck: Why it’s so Hard to Do New Things in Old Organizations (This lecture forms the Discussion Board subject for the week)
Dr. Rebecca Henderson Massachusetts of Technology (MIT) December 7, 2007 Lecture
See: http://video.mit.edu/watch/stuck-why-its-so-hard-to-do-new-things-in-oldorganizations-9319/

Presentation Summary:

According to Dr. Henderson, companies looking to act in fundamentally different ways must prepare for overload, accepting and managing the fact that the business will be “worse before better”. Becoming unstuck, says Henderson, means measuring capacity, tracking resources, finding time to step back and make decisions, demonstrating a commitment at all levels of the company, and having serious conversations, from the mind and from the heart. In sustainability, concludes Henderson, we “need to break the logjam between overload and strategy”, and we “need to be very precise about what we want to do”.

Statement to consider while viewing the video lecture:

“The trouble with the initiatives that she describes is that the decision must be made by the company leadership/ownership/board/etc…, and few are actually capable of being more than mediocre”.

Review and discuss this lecture and Dr. Henderson’s premise
