Scenario
A newly-minted private pilot, having just obtained the airplane single engine land rating, was excited at the prospect of finally being able to fly without having to report to an instructor. While flying in the local area, he spotted a
Cessna 337, a multi-engine aircraft. The aircraft just came out of annual where it received two overhauled cylinders and a new crankshaft. The pilot was so ion love with the aircraft that he purchased it on the spot. He called his
local insurance broker and asked to insure the aircraft for ground risk only.
The next day he asked a couple of friends to go for a flight. They were excited to see his new aircraft and each brought a couple of kids along for the flight. The aircraft was a little light on fuel, but there was no fuel available at
the current airport.
Amazingly, the single engine land pilot managed to take off and head toward the nearest airport with services. By the time he took off, the sun had set. The pilot panicked due to night conditions and began to start a descent
toward the airport. Within a few minutes, he crashed into trees along the route. The pilot was the lone survivor.
