The excerpt from Drake and Cayton’s Black Metropolis: A Study of Negro Life in a Northern City is titled “The Spirit of Bronzeville.” The recurrent themes which were identified as part of the Chicago Renaissance were Home, Travel, The Struggle to Survive to Make it Through, Getting Ahead, Religion, Having a Good Time, Music, Serving Time, and Love. Richard Wright, who wrote the introduction to Black Metropolis, is the author of The Man Who Lived Underground. Some of the themes mentioned above are evident in this work of Wright’s. Choose one or two of these themes and discuss in this journal. Remember, please write a 3 page paper, typed, double spaced, with one inch margins, in a “traditional” 12 point
