Choose ONE painting to do a close visual analysis of. All paintings are located in the
Madame Cezanne Exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, 82nd Street and Fifth Avenue. Please attach either your pin or receipt from the museum to the paper.
After carefully examining your chosen object, compose a 3 page paper that explores all the visual details of the painting you have chosen and situate the work within the themes of the course as discussed in class and the readings. This is not a research paper but rather a visual analysis of a work of art upon which you will bring your knowledge from the course to bear. Therefore you should take detailed notes while standing in front of the painting itself. As well you are required to do a sketch that you will hand in with your paper in front of the work of art. When writing your observations and formulating your argument, feel free to use information from lecture, readings, and discussion in order to illuminate and strengthen your argument.
