Making an Emotional Connection

Storytelling is an effective way to connect with your audience during a presentation. For this assignment, you will tell a real story about an experience you have had; the story should not be made up and should be your own. The goal of this presentation is to project an emotional experience onto your audience. You want to captivate your classmates and have them feel what you felt while going through this experience. It can include any emotion, joy, embarrassment, jealously, resentment, satisfaction, accomplishment, etc.; they should be able to feel what you felt.
One note of caution: stories should be personal but not private; in other words, you need to decide what you feel comfortable talking about in public and really sad stories can be hard to get through. It may be wise to stay clear of extremely personal memories.
Objective:
• To make your audience “feel” an emotion
• To use one of the language devices mentioned in class or in the readings
Guidelines:
• Time: 2-3 minutes
• Dress: Business Casual
