Management of Local Economic Development

You are the Chief Administrative Officer/City Manager of a community of your choice that has the chance of attracting AirCom, a manufacturer of air conditioning equipment that will fill a 150,000 square foot building that has been vacant for the last three year as well as attract 120 new, medium paying jobs ($16.00 per hour plus).

This would be a positive boost for the community, both economically and politically, (there is an election coming up in the next nine months). You know the company is also shopping other jurisdictions.

1. Name the community that you have chosen and then, based upon the notes and lecture (attached), identify the advantages your community has that you will use to persuade Aircom that your location is superior, articulating how these attributes put you at an advantage (your selling points) to your competitors.

2. Then identify two items that may put your community at a disadvantage (your negatives) and state what arguments you would use to mitigate these points, should they arise in your discussions with Aircom.
