? Discuss the representations of health and social care issues by the media
? Review the importance of mass media for an understanding of the experience of health, wellbeing and illness
? Analyse the impact which the mass media may have on health and social care organisations and services
? Discuss how various media can be used to convey information related to health, wellbeing and social care
? Use a range of sources to gather information, analyse and present in an appropriate way
? Develop effective communication skills, through group work, peer feedback and presentation of written and verbal information
Your assignment must:
? Provide an overview of the types of media in the UK and the key issues relative to their impact on health and social care services, using appropriate academic sources; these will have been discussed in class and should include; models of mass communication, influences on the media, images of health and social care in the media, the impact of social media, proactive use of the media in communication strategies etc.
? Focus on one specific issue, e.g. mental illness, body image, healthy lifestyles, disability, HIV infection. Discuss the influence of the media on public perception; also the factors which impact upon the media e.g. political influences, pressure groups etc., in relation to your chosen area of study. Please ensure you use a range of academic reference sources.
? Discuss which media channels you would use to reach the target population (Teenager girls in UK) for your topic (Body Image), taking into account relevant statistical information.
