MEMO OF INTENT GUIDELINES
THE WRITING TASK:
You will be writing a memo of intent requesting permission to continue with your topic of research. For this assignment, you will need to submit three items by the due date for this particular step in the research project. Everything must be submitted in a folder.
CONTENT of MEMO:
This short, yet detailed memo will provide the following information:
The first paragraph indicates the purpose:
State that you are submitting this memo for permission to proceed with your topic for your research report. Be sure to explain clearly what the topic will be and why you have chosen it. Remember, it must relate to your major/technology. Include a sentence that says, “My thesis sentence will be…,” and then write out your thesis statement. Make sure that it has a subject (main idea) and a clear controlling idea.
The middle paragraph(s) present the details
I want detail. I need to know what the focus of your report is going to be. Therefore, you need to tell me your three headings (or paragraph content). This paragraph will be the longest as you should give me details and explanations of what you will research and write about. You will also discuss your research, what articles you have found, and what you are still looking for.
The last paragraph discusses concerns, ask questions, or includes a neutral statement
In this last paragraph, indicate if there are any problems and concerns. Finally, you need to tell me why researching this topic is important.
