Summary
Choose two artist’s from different movements within the Modern Era. Write a two page essay that compares and contrasts these artist and their work within an art historical context. What were the influences of the time that shaped the work of each artist? Compare and the artists in form, content, and context.
*Formal analysis should contain at least three specific Elements of Art (Chapter 4) and one Principle of Design (Chapter5).
*Clearly explain which art movement (Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Cubism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Popism, etc…) of which each painting belongs and why.
Examples:
Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night (page 10) compared to Renoir’s Moulin de la Galette (page 473)
Andy Warhol’s Gold Marilyn Monroe (page 503) compared to Willam de Kooning’s Woman IV (page 499)
