Instructions on Assessment:

Students are required to submit a 3500 word report on the topic:
‘What is meant by ‘added value’ and ‘business partnership’ with relation to the HR resourcing and development role?’
You are required to incorporate the following elements:

1. Provide an explanation of ‘Resourcing’ and ‘Development ’in your introduction.

2. Conduct a critical analysis of the concept of ‘added value’ and ‘business partnership’ in relation to resourcing and development activities undertaken within the workplace. You should use HRM/HRD theory and research to support your work. You should illustrate your work with contemporary HRM/HRD examples gained from academic papers and /or professional journals.

3. Provide examples of 3 areas that could make a real difference to a workplace that you have some knowledge of. This knowledge could be from a work placement, a job that you have done/are doing or an article that you have read about in a HRM/HRD journal. You must use one example from ‘resourcing and one example from ‘development’ and a third from either “resourcing” or “development”. *The choice of areas link directly to teaching over the semester.

4. The topics from resourcing are:
HR planning
Recruitment and selection
Induction
Performance Management
Wellbeing and Absence management
Managing Redundancy
The topics from development are:
The learning organization
The role of evaluation in learning
Knowledge management
Management and Leadership Development
Talent management
Coaching and mentoring

5. You must be able to explain clearly how they ‘add value’ to the organization and cement the ‘business partnership’.

6. Your report should conclude with recommendations (justified and supported with references) to improve current organizational practice

The other 10% can be gained by seminar presentations (seethe Teaching and Learning Plan for the week/s of presentations)

The two presentations will be on the topics ‘How Diversity can add value’(seminar 3) and and ‘How HRD can add value’(seminar 11)

The presentations will be undertaken in groups and these will be allocated by your tutor at the first seminar of the semester. The same groups will do both presentations.

The allocation of the 5% is as below and will be assessed by your tutor at the seminar. (Note: Your tutor will provide your mark on the day of the seminar.)

Researched the topic with the group 1%
Helped the group with the presentation slides 1%
Attended the seminar with a clear role to play in the presentation 1%
Presented at the seminar with the group in a clear and confident manner 1%
Demonstrated knowledge and critical awareness 1%

Please note that individual presentations are not permissible.
Sudden unexpected absence on the day of the seminar can still offer the opportunity for 2% if students have participated in group activities.
Students who are absent on the day of the presentation will only be awarded up to 2% for participation in research and slide presentation.

This assessment includes group work and/or peer assessment or evaluation. It is important that students familiarise themselves with protocols for these activities and follow these during the course of the assessment. The document can be found on the module’s site on the e-Learning Portal.
