Part I: Inspirational Board
Develop an inspiration board for a future fashion collection of your choice. Designers, merchandisers and visual merchandisers use their creativity, social, artistic
and cultural factors to create a seasonal collection or window displays. Think in terms of cultural, economic and social elements that have influenced your theme and
inspiration or elements that have paved the way for your collection.
Create an inspirational board highlighting your theme for your future collection. Use your creativity to illustrate a story on how you were inspired. Create a theme
and demonstrate that theme within your board. As an emerging designer/merchandiser, etc. How were you inspired? Re-read Ch. 1 & 2 to find cultural, societal and
artistic ideas for a collection.
• Foam core measurements must be 18” X 24”
• Photos of inspiration or factors that influenced the trend
• Color chips from a paint store or pantone chips (minimum 4 chips)
• Fabric swatches from scraps or fabric stores (minimum 4 swatches)
• Visually appealing, PROFESSIONAL, and understandable
• Neatly cut photos with proper adhesive
• If you use text or wording it must be printed, no hand writing
Part II: Paper
Write a 1-1 ½ page paper describing how your inspirational board could be used for a future fashion or accessories collection. Begin the paper by describing your
inspirational process and how, where, etc. you found inspiration for your mood board. Secondly, describe and list three potential garments or fashion products that
could be used for a future collection from the inspiration from your mood board.
Criteria for Evaluation
100 Points
Inspirational Board:
• Overall appeal, effort and ability to demonstrate a theme 20
• Creativity (Use of principles of design, color, line, shape, texture) 20
• Neatness and professionalism (text only, no hand writing) 10
• Fabric swatches (minimum of 4 swatches) 5
• Color swatches (minimum of 4 swatches) 5
• Photos/cutouts of images related to your collection and theme 5
Paper:
• Ability to illustrate your theme and inspiration in words 15
(This is an exercise in creative writing)
• Professional terminology, grammar, paper organization: introduction, content
and concluding paragraph 10
• Outline 10
