ENGR101 PROJECT RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVE:
Studying math independent of its application does little to excite students about engineering. The ENGR101 Group
Project
is meant to impress upon students the practicality of math as well as be a fun exercise in discovering the
excitement of current engineering innovations.
HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT:
As an example of how to get started, recall the in

class presentation on l
ibrary research done by Hema
Ramachandran,
your Engineering Librarian.
Based on the PRISM article about the bluegill sunfish, you came to easily recognize AUV, propulsion, and drag as key
terms (Wordle provided a great visual). Through 3 peer

reviewed arti
cles (based on key terms),
you
would come across
some engineering

related concepts. From the bluegill sunfish article,
you read about the concept of drag and discovered
that
Stoke’s Law was found to best relate to the concept of drag.
?
For
your ENGR101 Gro
up Project, just include a minimum one paragraph about the concept of drag, Stoke’s Law,
and include the mathematical formula associated with Stoke’s Law.
?
For t
he ENGR102 design concept, based on this bluegill sunfish article,
you propose to build
a small
prototype of
a fin or other mode
l
to explain what fin shapes produce lower drag (e.g., elliptical, tapered, hemispherical, etc.).
