Scenario
ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME (AIDS)
Demog: 29 yo Oriental female; single; rooming house
Diagnosed: age 26 years
Hx: suspect heterosexual transmission from partner who had used IV drugs; AIDS-defined with Pneumocystis (carinii) jiroveci; recurrent fungal infections; herpes zoster; memory loss; T cell count = 75
Current disease status: active
Potential complications: multisystem effects; opportunistic infections; death
Treatments: anti-HIV & prophylactic medication regimen; nutrition plan; multidisciplinary approach @ outpatient clinic
Current situation: grieve loss childbearing capacity & unachieved adult roles & education; rejection by family; stigma of condition
Client goals: stay functional with dignity as long as possible; prevent recurrent infections; start support group
Task is to create ajournal
Directions :
1. Introduce character & their family.
a. The scenario may not provide information on the character or their family; students are responsible to provide for a complete character and family members in full.
2. All information from the students chosen scenario must be included in the Introduction of the character and family, and briefly state
3. Complete an Individual Developmental Assessment specific to the character, using Havighurst.
4. Complete a Family Developmental Assessment of the family unit using Duvall.
5. Select and write about a minimum of (3) of the remaining asterisked (*) concepts that are “most relevant to” (have the most impact on) your “assumed” chronic condition. Be sure that your journal clearly identifies each selected concept body image, sexuality, stigma, adaptation, social isolation (I think that underlined concepts most relate to her condition )
6. Identify 1-3 nursing roles every week that are “most relevant to that weeks Journal focus. The student will identify a chronic care setting for each role chosen.

i. Advocate, Educator, Resource, Case Manager, Hospice/Palliative Nurse, Clinical Specialist, Home Health Nurse, Psych/Mental Health Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse (NP)
